My Jacuzzi Ice Bath

Yes, one of the things that sold me on my home was it had a Jacuzzi bath tub and it’s been everything I’ve imagined it could be.

When I saw it, I envisioned something similar to the movie Major League where they rigged up an outboard motor to their broken ice bath in the clubhouse. So after that first long Saturday workout…I couldn’t wait to give this thing a try.

I’m no stranger to cold water; I’ve done the Lake Erie Polar Plunge on New Year’s Day – so I know how cold water can really get. I wanted to get this tub as cold as possible so I used a ton of ice, at least three bags plus what was in my freezer. Leftover soup containers from Chinese food are good for making ice too (hence the big chunks).

Next, add beer. It was different when I was single because you could just throw the beers in the tub with you and because of the principles of heat transfer you knew your beers would be cold super quick. I’m sure she’d probably frown upon this if she ever saw it…Actually, let me take this moment to tell you to shower and get clean before you do an ice bath.

Now that the tub is nice and cold – it’s time to test the waters so to speak. If you’ve never done an ice bath before, you’re in for a treat. It’s going to be pretty cold, but after a minute or two you’ll get used to it. If you’re not one for the cold – throw a hoodie on, but make sure it doesn’t touch the water.

Lastly…it was time to see what those Jacuzzi jets could do! The instant I tried them (while sitting in the tub) it shot ice cubes from behind my back up to the ceiling. That being said, I still think the tub makes it 100% worth getting this house.
